Thursday 22nd June 2023 - Colorado (Slight Risk)

We started today in Fort Collins and HRRR was once again like a dog with a bone about a lone Supercell somewhere near the denver area today spinning off to the east from 19z onwards. Moisture was not even close to yesterday with around 60f being advertised near Limon in a narrow band but even 60f at that elevation is amazing to see in the Foothills and Palmer Divide so you take notice. We drove to the usual hangout on DCVZ Days and had lunch at the Truck stop at Bennett and watched a developing Supercell to the SW of Denver taking shape, these usually take a few hours then head off Eastwards into the lower elevations and better moisture, but not today haha this one just sat there and actually produced a quite big for Colorado Standards Wedge Tornado west of Interstate 25 near Highlands Ranch. We could see the Tornado from our vantage point near Kiowa but pictures were not the best. The Storm then headed east but was joined by other storms and the whole system became very messy with Outflow driven convection, something really needed to boss this if we were to salvage the day, as we positioned down near Calhan and Simla (Previous DCVZ Haunts from years gone by) the Storm did try to interact with an old Outflow Boundary and briefly spun up another weak Tornado but again quickly had outflow issues. We ventured back west towards Colorado Springs for one final Supercell which gained a Tornado Warning, again this storm looked way to cold in nature with Outflow issues so we had an early finish and early start tomorrow for the best outlook of the 3 days to come once again in Wyoming.
