Wednesday 21st June 2023 - WY/CO (Enhanced Risk)

After a 4 day break at the end of the Tours it was time for 3 days of back to back chasing before I headed home to the Uk after a long tough season, today featured some pretty exceptional moisture content which had made its way up into the High Plains. Whenever you see a Dewpoint reading of 73f at Fort Morgan you take note and stick close to Colorado Right ? Right ?

Well thankfully my biggest cock up in over 5 years happened when I had no tours with me so why of why did I go for the Laramie Supercell which after evaluation only really had low 50s dewpoints to work with, of course storms to the East of Fort Morgan went on a Tornado Festival with some of the most incredible pictures in years. Thing is it wasnt just me being stupid in Wyoming with pretty much 95% of the worlds chasers up there in the cold stratus as well whilst just 3 chasers were clever enough to pick NE Colorado. Things like this happening are good though and makes us better chasers for the future so although I was apart of the red dot walk of shame coming back south into Colorado in readiness for tomorrows Day 2 of the DCVZ it will make me better for future chases.

We still did see a kick ass Supercell but storms to our east cut off the moisture flow and we were left with a Storm that never left the mountain before it lined out and a decent little sunset storm near Fort Collins just before we called off the chase for the day. In good position for tomorrow though which should be around the Denver area.
