Tuesday 23rd May - Tx Panhandle (Slight Risk)

We started today in Lubbock and this day would see an almost repeat of the Morton day last year in very close proximity to that area as well, west of Lubbock and areas west of Amarillo. SPC went with a 2% Tornado risk and 30% for Hail and Wind. Supercells would form along the Dryline in Eastern New Mexico and any storms that interacted with Outflow Boundaries left over from the previous days convection could have the chance to produce Tornadoes. Our first intercept of the day was SW of Hereford and an almost stationery Supercell sitting just east of Clovis which produced a weak Landspout Tornado visible from our location, lovely Classic Supercell structure and some nice Anvil Cg Lightning. More storms bumped into the back of this storm and pushed it SE down the highway towards Muleshoe and Littlefield. Numerous Funnel clouds were spotted but no more touchdowns, after letting the hail core run over us at Earth (Texas) we watched a stunning Mammatus display from the west before heading back into Lubbock for the night once again.
