Wednesday 24th May 2023 - NM/TX (Enhanced Risk)
Once again we started from Lubbock and again the Risk area was almost the same with a repeating pattern of Dryline Storms moving east of the Higher Terrain of New Mexico into Texas in the Late Afternoon. Today featured much better dewpoints and a stronger dryline circulation somewhere near Santa Rosa. We headed to San Jon for our target and it wasnt long before a stunning Supercell initiated, dangerous lightning was falling out of this storm a long way ahead of the core. We watched for as long as we could before the Storm took on that SSE Turn and started to head towards Clovis. The road south from San Jon over the Caprock area of New Mexico is one of the prettiest in this area so I knew once we crested up to the next level of the plateau we would have incredible views of this HP Monster which was Tornado Warned for most of its life. The Green colours in this storm were incredible and it was throwing out 4” Hail for fun as well. We missed a couple of brief quick Tornadoes when re-positioning but about 13 miles north of Clovis we had a grandstand view of a tall stout cone Tornado around 3 miles to our north. The storm continued on towards Clovis where we took some dirt roads to avoid the town and we ended up near Friona and Muleshoe again (Groundhog Day) We then let this storm chase us all the way back to yep you guessed it Lubbock again for the 3rd night running. A truly stunning storm will leave you with some of the better pictures from today.
