Friday 5th May 2023 - Nebraska (Slight Risk)

Last day of warm up chases and today looked like a Stationery Boundary Chase along the Nebraska and Kansas Border. SPC went with a 2% Tornado Risk and 30% for Large Destructive Hail. After a quick lunch in Hays (KS) we targeted north of Phillipsburg and a Storm duly fired just North of there along the Border, it took its time to organise but once it did it became a really nice LP Supercell, we needed to get east to see any sort of structure so we core punched through whilst the hail was still relatively small. Once over the other side a lovely LP Supercell awaited up with a very noisy Hail Roar. The Storm was tracking ESE which made it difficult with our East road and limited South options due to muddy roads from previous rains. Ultimately a photoshoot too long cost us and we took Baseballs to the windscreen of the car which completely smashed in the glass in about 5 places. After we escaped and let the storm pass to our north we got some nice arty pictures from the west side, more Storms were now forming just before sunset and another lovely structured LP Supercell evolved which we pictured before breaking off the chase for the night. Once again zero rotation with these storms and at the moment we are having moisture issues this far north and lack of mesoscale features is hampering the Tornado chances. But a fun chase all the same.
