Thursday 4th May 2023 - Texas (Enhanced Risk)

Today on paper was almost a carbon copy of Last years Risk and in the same general Area as well. SPC went with a 5% Tornado Risk today and 30% for Large Hail. Storms today would erupt on a sharpening dryline over the Caprock area and move east into better moisture. HRRR was showing a couple of Isolated Discrete Supercell but in reality this was way off course with numerous Storms erupting at once due to no cap. In fact the Storm we tracked looked the best right at the start and gained a Tornado Warning at once. But soon as this raced off towards Wichita Falls other storms contaminated ours and a big line of storms was ongoing even at 5pm CDT. We continued on and watched new storms break out further south and west towards the Abilene area but these quickly faded when loss of daytime heating ensued. A very underperforming day given the parameters.
